Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-24
GitChat ("we", "us") operates the messaging platform at https://gitchat.doganddev.eu. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and your rights.
1. Data we collect
When you sign in with GitHub OAuth, we receive only the profile information you authorize GitHub to share (typically: GitHub user ID, login, display name, email if public, avatar URL, and an access token scoped to the permissions you approve). We also store messages, conversations, attachments, and settings you create inside GitChat.
2. How we use data
We use your data solely to operate GitChat: authentication, messaging, friend sync within your GitHub network, billing for paid plans, and security. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use your content for advertising or unrelated commercial profiling.
3. Legal basis (GDPR)
Processing is based on contract performance (providing the service), legitimate interest (security, abuse prevention), and consent where required (e.g. optional notifications).
4. Sharing with third parties
We share data only with subprocessors needed to run the service (hosting, email, payment providers such as Stripe/Lemon Squeezy when you subscribe). GitHub receives OAuth requests directly from your browser. We do not share message content with advertisers.
5. Retention
Account and message data are kept while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting support.
6. Security
We apply industry-standard measures: HTTPS, encrypted tokens at rest, access controls, and regular updates. No system is 100% secure; report issues to support promptly.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, or object to processing. Contact us to exercise these rights. EU users may lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority.
8. Cookies & sessions
We use essential session cookies for login and locale preference. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on public pages.
